Youth Groups

The Community Soup Kitchen and Outreach Center has several programs for young people to get involved

Youth Council

Participants are chosen from area schools and work collaboratively with fellow students, soup kitchen staff and volunteers to understand homelessness and poverty, communicate the causes effectively and inspire change in their own community.

The Community Soup Kitchen and Outreach Center is in the process of establishing a pilot program with several area schools.  Please contact us for more information.

Youth Fighting Hunger

This program offers a structured opportunity to work with the Community Soup Kitchen and become part of our organization.

Other Youth Opportunities

Even if you are not on the Youth Council, you can still help the hungry and homeless in our area by:

  • Preparing desserts or casseroles to bring the Soup Kitchen*
  • Holding a drive for canned food or toiletries
  • Holding a seasonal food drive for Thanksgiving and the Holidays*
  • Making bagged meals for our guests to take away for another meal for themselves or other family members e.g., a nice meat sandwich (no condiments please), piece of fruit, healthy snack, and a drink - or for breakfast, a small box of cereal, fruit, and a drink.* PLEASE call the office to schedule a day prior to making the meals*
  • Getting a group of friends together and participate in the Hunger Walk in the Fall
  • Doing chores around the house for money to donate to the Soup Kitchen
  • Organizing a “Coins for a Cause “ drive at your school or with your sports, music or Scouts group.
  • Organizing a fun clothing day such as “Dress –Down,” "crazy hat,” or “school spirit”  where students pay to  Wear a specific type of clothing and the money goes to fight hunger
  • Holding a dance or talent show at school, charging  for tickets and donating the proceeds to the Soup Kitchen
  • Running a bake sale or lemonade stand for our benefit
  • Working with your school cafeteria to donate a percentage of lunch money to the Soup Kitchen
  • Having a poster contest at school about poverty and homelessness
  • Coming in for a tour with your friends by calling the office at 973-267-0709
